The Well-Structured Sentence

Strong, sensible sentences are the indispensable building blocks of engaging writing. In one of our recent editing workshops, we discussed three rules for smart sentence structure:
A sentence should have only one point.
Structure a sentence to orient and cue the reader.
Structure sentences to emphasize what you mean to emphasize.
